This 6-week program will offer instructional courses for those who are seeking a deeper understanding and practical strategies for navigating through worship arts, either through service to their local church, or abroad.

Are you passionate about the intersection of music, worship, and leadership? Our Worship Arts Leadership certificate program welcomes individuals from all ages and diverse ministry backgrounds. While our program is open to anyone with a zeal for worship arts, it’s specially designed for those deeply connected to music and worship ministries.
6 Weeks / 6 Courses
All classes will be taught within a cohort. When you register, you are committing to the dates within the six weeks of the cohort and to be present at the Saturday Zoom sessions with your instructor. All classes are online using Zoom and the Canvas Learning Management System. Zoom sessions are on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM CT with post-class learning activities offered online in the Canvas Learning Management System.

The total cost of the program is $900.
Refund Policy:
Refunds are not available for the Worship Arts Leadership Certificate program. After payment has been made, no refunds will be processed. If you cannot attend during the term you registered for, please email Jakes Divinity School at lifelonglearning@jakesdivinity.org about transferring your registration fee to attend during the next term.
The WAL certificate program is not eligible for federal financial aid (FAFSA) because it is a non-credit certificate program which means the courses within the program are not applicable toward a degree but are only being taken to improve your leadership development and/or professional or personal enrichment.

Dr. Cheryl Jackson is a distinguished social entrepreneur and community leader whose visionary leadership has transformed lives across multiple cities. As the founder of Minnie’s Food Pantry—a nationally recognized, award-winning organization—she has led efforts to provide over 31 million meals to children and families in need, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to social impact and community service.
Throughout her career, Dr. Jackson has pioneered initiatives that foster community empowerment and advocate for social change. She served on the inaugural national board of ForbesBlk and became the first African American President of the Plano Chamber Women’s Division in its five-decade history. Her leadership expertise and dedication to service earned her the key to the City of Plano, the Congressional Patriot Award, which is received by less than one percent of people in America, as well as presidential commendations from three administrations.

Recognized with numerous prestigious awards—including Ebony’s Top 100 of 2018, the U.S. Black Chamber Top 50 Women of the Year, and an honorary doctorate—Dr. Jackson’s most important title is “Gigi” to eight grandchildren.
Oscar Edward Williams, Jr., Ed.D.
Dr. Oscar Williams Jr., an accomplished, musician, composer, educator, author, and artist has enjoyed an extensive career with both domestic and international impact.
Born in St. Louis, MO to the late Oscar Williams, Sr. and Jacquelyn (Blair) Williams, Oscar began serving in his local church – Bethel Temple Church of Christ Holiness as the youth pianist and there is his love for music and ministry began. Oscar preached his trial sermon and was licensed at the Rhema Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO in 2004. After attending the Potter’s House School of Ministry, Dr. Williams was ordained an Elder in 2016 at the Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies, Inc. and in 2022 was ordained as an Associate Pastor at the Potter’s House church. Dr. Williams has had the privilege to serve in musical leadership with several denominations and organizations including: The National Baptist Convention, The National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, The Gospel Music Workshop of America, Church of God in Christ National Body, The National Association of Negro Musicians, The Hampton Choir and Organist Guild, The Betsy Stockton Department at Princeton University and many more.
As a composer, Dr. Williams has been privileged to release music and travel internationally as an award-winning Gospel Artist. To date, he has had 3 chart-topping releases and has composed and produced for Gospel greats such as: Bishop TD Jakes, Tamela Mann, Karen Clark-Sheard, Smokie Norful, The Mississippi Mass Choir, and many others. His high-profile international performances include: The Vatican Christmas Celebration for Pope John Paul II; Vocal conductor for international pop-star Elisa; and European tours in Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and France. In 2010, Oscar was selected to serve as a U.S. Cultural Ambassador by the U.S. States department. His work includes traveling extensively to foreign countries and collaborating with U.S. Embassy’s for concerts, master classes and lectures on the importance of American Music art forms specifically music from the African American perspective.
Oscar holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Piano Performance from the University of Missouri St. Louis; a Master of Music in Music Composition from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX; and a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Management with an emphasis in Charter School Administration from Dallas Baptist University. Previously he served as the Executive Director of Music and Fine Arts for the Potters House Church and T.D. Jakes Ministries and currently serves as the Associate Pastor of Music and Performing Arts at the Potter’s House Church; Dean of Worship at Jakes Divinity School in Dallas, Texas; an adjunct professor at The Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN and is the founder and CEO of Speak Life, LLC – a music and art content provider and Speak Life Academy of Arts and Music, Inc. – a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that specializes in STEAM curriculum and Performing art guides.
Dr. Marcell Silva Steuernagel, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Church Music and Director of the Master of Sacred Music and Doctor of Pastoral Music Programs at Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology. He also serves as the Canterbury Dictionary of Hymnology’s Regional Editor for Latin American & the Caribbean, and lead co-editor of the Journal of Praise and Worship.
Dr. Marcell writes at the intersection of church music, theology, musicology, and performance theory. He served as Minister of Worship, Arts and Communication at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Curitiba, Brazil, for more than a decade, and is an internationally active composer and performer. His most recent monograph is Church Music Through the Lens of Performance, published on Routledge’s Congregational Music Studies series.
Psalmist Tonya Baker
An anointed psalmist, gifted songwriter, author, workshop instructor, and blessing to the Body of Christ. She travels extensively, nationally and abroad, reaching the nations with her gift of song and imparting wisdom and knowledge through the Word.
As a vocalist, Tonya is a much sought-after psalmist who ministers the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ across the country. Under her own independent production company, she released two recordings – Life in Him and Since He Came In. Her third release, entitled The Live Encounter, was under the Kingdom Records label and distributed by Universal Music Group.
She has served as emcee and host for many events, concerts, and showcases throughout the Midwest. Tonya ministers the Word of God in workshop sessions on topics such as worship and integrity in music ministry. The title “author” has most recently been bestowed upon her, as her latest offering is her first book, entitled Worship Beyond the Song – A Psalmist’s Perspective. In 2018, she had the opportunity to be an online instructor with Kingdom Life Academy, teaching The Anatomy of Worship under the leadership tract.
As a songwriter, she has written songs that have been recorded by such national recording artists as Tonéx and Helen Baylor. As a background vocalist, she has traveled with Byron Cage, Percy Bady, Lisa McClendon, among others. She has shared the stage and opened for such artists as Shirley Caesar, CeCe Winans, Fred Hammond, Israel Houghton, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Mary Mary, and Tye Tribbett, to name a few.

Cynthia D. Rembert James, Ph.D., D.Min., D.D.
As global thinkers, advocates, and citizens, Dr. Cynthia James and her spouse, Alvin James, are committed to and actively engaged in what is commonly referred to as “Bridging the Gap” among the global African diaspora via conferences, webinars, and their family-owned travel business, I Heart Travel and Tours. This vehicle specializes in curating bespoke, faith-based, executive group insight expeditions throughout South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Seychelles, and other global destinations such as Brazil, Italy, and Greece.
Additionally, I Heart Medical Missions, a charitable offshoot, offers volunteer opportunities benefiting underserved and underrepresented communities. This follows over four decades of pastoral experience and a long-running academic and international consulting career focusing on responsible global leadership.
Dr. James has served high-level governmental officials domestically and abroad, held speaking engagements in Russia, Finland, Turkey, Ghana, the Caribbean, and throughout Africa, and is a three-time speaker for the Hampton University Ministers Conference. She has received two Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards and the 2024 Pentecostal Studies Award. She was consecrated as a Bishop in 2001 and served as Executive Officer for the World Bishops Council and the Joint College of Bishops for over 20 years. Dr. James has provided oversight to major assemblies of pastors beginning in 1986 to the present. This included a 12-year pastoral training and oversight assignment ending in 2024 with The Potter’s House of Dallas.
Dr. James continues to provide training, credentialing, and commissioning of pastors and missionaries domestically and abroad as President of Landmark Ministries, Inc., and through her episcopal gathering, United Covenant Fellowship. She has held numerous graduate faculty and/or seminary trustee appointments, including Rutgers University, the University of Pittsburgh, California State University, Asbury, and Portland University/Jakes Divinity School.
Dr. James has three major initiatives that reflect her global vision for leadership and ministry. Currently, academic planning is underway with a South African university to foster increased diasporic conversations. In October 2025, Dr. James will launch the inaugural Make Room*Conference, designed to highlight the interconnectedness of healthy global leaders, thriving organizations (congregations), and missional witness. In 2026, she will debut Protégé, a highly anticipated global immersion and capstone experience distinguished by its unique Worldview Leadership Lab. Beyond these initiatives, Dr. James continues to speak and advise on critical issues, including geopolitical advocacy, the rights of women and children, cultural intelligence, global ethics, and leadership training.

Dr. Elizabeth Wachira is an Associate Professor of Public Health at East Texas A&M University, where she also serves as Director of the Master of Public Health program. As an immigrant, educator, and Black woman in academia, her journey has been one of resilience, shaping both her scholarship and her commitment to equipping the next generation of leaders to address equity, wellness, and the needs of diverse communities.
Alongside her academic role, Dr. Wachira serves as the Executive Pastor of Rhema Gospel Church, a culturally and generationally diverse church in North Richland Hills. She believes the church is called to be an integral hub of community well-being and response, where faith is not only proclaimed but practiced through presence, care, and empowerment. For her, faith in God is the foundation of all we are and do, compelling us to Love God and His people both within and beyond the church walls.
Dr. Wachira is also the founder of The BLOOM Experience, a community-centered initiative that creates spaces for multigenerational women to connect, learn, and thrive in their God-given purpose. Beyond BLOOM, she actively facilitates and supports community initiatives that ensure diaspora communities are empowered to live wholistically healthy lives. Her work reflects the integration of public health, faith, and community empowerment in service of flourishing communities.

JOB SUMMARY:

A distinguished educator, life strategist, mentor, author, and speaker, Dr. Felisha Ford is a native of Montgomery, AL. She currently resides in Grapevine, Texas with her husband, Bishop Demetrius Ford and their two sons.
She holds postsecondary degrees in counseling and psychology from Alabama A&M University (Bachelor of Arts), Troy University (Master of Arts), and Capella University (Doctor of Philosophy).
Dr. Ford’s professional career includes nearly 20 years of experience as a higher education administrator. She is currently serving as Dean/Interim President at Jakes Divinity School. She is well-versed in guiding students along the path of academic achievement and personal and career development. She has also effectively led teams in the development, execution, and assessment of strategic plans and student success initiatives to increase persistence, retention, and completion rates. Her work ethic embodies professionalism, excellence, quality, productivity, and accountability.
Even though Dr. Ford esteems educational and professional opportunities as blessings from God, she realizes that there is a much higher calling and opportunity that God presents to us in life and that is to serve Him and others and to be obedient to His divine calling. In the execution of her obedience to God and through the leading and empowerment of the Holy Spirit, Dr. Ford has been fulfilling her divine call in ministry in various capacities including becoming licensed as a minister (1999) and ordained as an elder (2001); co-founding and co-pastoring a church for 12 years alongside her husband; and empowering women and serving her community through her Women of Excellence ministry for over a decade which has included empowerment and mentoring sessions, annual conferences, outreach efforts, and scholarships.
Dr. Ford has enjoyed sharing the life-changing message of Jesus Christ at numerous services, conferences, and events in her local community and across the nation. She has also had the privilege of sharing on Trinity Broadcasting Network (Montgomery) on two memorable occasions. She is currently serving in ministry at The Potter’s House North Dallas under the leadership of Bishop Joby and Pastor Sheryl Brady.
In 2018, Dr. Ford published her first book entitled Pearls for Everyday Life which is a 60-day inspirational devotional. Her daily goal is to live as a yielded vessel ready for the Master to use (II Tim. 2:21).

Dr. Tanesha D. House is a Community, Economic & Leadership Development Practitioner. She is the Senior Principal Consultant and Owner of InsightFuelEd, LLC, a educational consulting practice that trains and coaches individuals and organizations in the areas of Organizational Change, Leadership Development and Diversity Equity & Inclusion.
As an award-wining educator and global leader, she has pioneered a Women’s Institute for Global Leadership and created a masters degree in leadership for women for a liberal arts university in Illinois. In 2019, Dr. House was elected to represent the UNAUSA on the United Nations Women 63rd Commission on the Status of Women. In 2021, Dr. House received an Exceptional Leader Award for the work she has done in Chicago’s marginalized communities. Dr. House embarked upon a joint mission to minister to the people of Haiti and an independent mission project to serve the people of Kenya in Njoro, Nakuru, Limuru, Narok and Rrotian Village. Also, she was one of 15 elite female leaders from across the United States, chosen to participate in Leadership America’s international leadership program in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, where she met with various leaders of the middle east, including the Chief Economist.
Additionally, she was selected by the Former Israeli Consul General to the Midwest as one of 13 U.S. Academic Delegation of Scholars to travel Israel to meet with diplomats and academic leaders., as well as guest speaker for Israel’s 67th Anniversary Nation State event. Stu Cocanougher serves at the Share Strategy Pastor at Southcliff Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Stu has been at Southcliff for more than 20 years where he leads Southcliff’s outreach, evangelism, and missions ministries. Stu oversees numerous ministries to internationals and has led Southcliff to become a multicultural church with members from a wide variety of ethnicities and backgrounds. Stu has led mission trips to numerous locations including Zambia, Serbia, Spain, China, and Laos. Before coming to Southcliff, Stu served at churches in Texas, Washington D.C., England, and the Philippines.
Stu is a graduate of the Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and Global Perspectives program at George Fox University. His dissertation focused on helping local churches reach out to immigrants (tinyurl.com/rethinkmissions). Stu’s book, “Reaching the World Across the Street,” is under contract by Urban Loft Publishing. His wife, Jana, is an elementary school librarian and they have two adult children.
Dr. Jamie Johnson is the associate dean for worship programs and an adjunct professor in the College of Christian Studies. He has studied church history (MA) and Christian education (PhD) and hungers to learn more about what it means for individuals and communities to follow Jesus in every aspect of life. He is married to Erin, a social work professor at George Fox University, and together they have three children. In his spare time, Jamie enjoys leading worship, running, reading and coaching his children’s soccer and baseball teams.
Rev. Dr. Jamale Kempt is an ordained gospel preacher as well as a multi-licensed educator in the state of Texas. She is a graduate of Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She holds the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (Texas Southern University), the Master of Education in Administration (Texas Southern University), the Master of Divinity (Houston Graduate School of Theology) and the Doctor of Ministry in Semiotics (Portland Seminary) under the lead professor Len Sweet. Her experience in church ministry includes Senior Pastor, Youth and Children’s Pastor, Praise and Worship Leader, Ministry Organizer, and Teacher Trainer. She has completed the Proclaimers Place Seminar at Baylor University. As an educator Dr. Kempt has experience as a Classroom Teacher, Campus Administrator, Instructional Coach, Teacher Development Specialist, and Curriculum Writer.
Serving as the Founder and Lead Consultant for Platforma Ministries, Dr. Kempt serves with a heart for God and a desire to help others lead in ministry. With academic excellence and professionalism, she uses her gifts of preaching and teaching to encourage, uplift and instruct ministers and ministry teams desiring to give God their very best.
Dr. Kempt currently serves in ministry — as an associate minister at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, WABC Bible Study Facilitator (Sugar Land), a faculty member of the Opened Bible Academy, a Steering Committee member for the African American Preaching Conference with Baylor University’s Truett Seminary, a member of the Baptist Minister’s Conference of Texas, a member of the Texas Baptist Women in Ministry, a charter member of the Global Church Network and a convener of The Women on the Front Line Conference.
She currently serves her community as a chaplain in the Memorial Hermann Hospital System in the Houston area.
Rev. Dr. Kempt is the pastor of Calvary Christian Church an online fellowship in the Southeast Region in the 8th District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME).
Rev. Dr. Kempt a proclaimer of the gospel in word and song. She has recorded a solo album entitled “All I Want to Do”, that expresses her desire to praise God in any and every situation. She has a published book of sermons entitled “Learning How to Lean”, an in site on how Dr. Kempt trust and depends on God to guide her through life’s daily changes.
My name is Al J. McGilvery and I am a current student at Jakes Divinity School (JDS), where I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Theology. My interest in pursuing this opportunity is because I believe that in order to be of better help to someone, you must first help yourself. As far as my career goes I am a musician and minister who is seeking to better serve my surroundings concerning the knowledge I am obtaining. What inspired me to do this all is really hard to explain in a good way, but I will say I know the Lord has led me here to this table because I had other plans. Having said that, when I graduate I do plan to continue to spread the Gospel and encourage people to get spiritually literate here at JDS.

Jakes Divinity School is seeking an Administrative Support and Enrollment Coordinator work with the dean’s office to provide administrative support for Jakes Divinity School and to work with partner institutions to enroll students at JDS. This will include internal relations among the TPH departments, writing letters to students to send via Sharp Spring (CRM) and other student communication efforts, and working closely with the assistant dean. The ASEC will also inform and advise potential students over the phone and via email regarding the program designs and enrollment process for select educational programs.

Dr. Thomas S. Cooper was called to be a minister of the gospel in 1993. Over the past 25 years he has committed his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and the work of the ministry. Within that time, Dr. Cooper has worked endlessly to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through various avenues of ministry. Dr. Cooper has been commissioned to take God’s word into the land so that His people can be healed and know that there is victory in Jesus. He aims to impart into the heart of men and women that no matter what the problem, you can be delivered from it
In his quest to pursue education and biblical training, he has earned one secular degree and three accredited theological degrees. He was a student, then faculty member at the Hugee Theological Institute in New York City serving as an undergraduate instructor in Biblical Studies. He has since received his Doctorate in Theology from the Andersonville Theological Seminary in Camilla, Georgia in August 2014. He is now the president of the Inspired Word Bible College – School of Ministry & Leadership located in the Bronx NY.
Adding to this list of achievements, Dr. Cooper is a published author. In May 2017 he re-released the deluxe addition of his first book entitled “The Process for the Product – Enduring the Season of Spiritual Maturity” where he shares insight through his personal experiences as well as the process of spiritual maturity.
Dr. Cooper is married to the beautiful Lynnette Cooper, the father of two wonderful daughters Lynna’Sha Victoria and Tyla Syrae’ and resides in Orange county New York. Presently, he serves as Senior Pastor of Kingdom Life Temple in the Bronx, New York. He attributes his achievements to the Lord whom he affirms is his strength and faithfully declares, “Without God, I would be nothing”.

Professionally, for the past 17 years, she has worked from a business analyst to leadership and senior management positions including Assistant Vice-President – Operations Project Manager and Vice President – Senior Operations Manager at Bank of America. With each position, she has been a stellar leader which resulted in promotions nearly every 3-4 years and notable awards and recognitions within the company. These achievements affirm her intellectual prowess and business acumen. Most recently, Adrienne started a new position within the Global Human Resources department at Bank of America.
Adrienne is a planner, and she has set goals for herself that she is determined to accomplish.
